A practical guide to launching a truly professional and profitable website.
Creating a website has become essential for entrepreneurs.
But in reality, many end up with a website that doesn't reflect their value, doesn't attract the right customers... or simply doesn't serve their business.
And it's not for lack of will: it's often because they don't know where to start or what mistakes to avoid.
In this article, I share the 7 most common mistakes I see among entrepreneurs — and most importantly, how to correct them to create an effective, professional, and results-oriented website.
1. Wanting to do everything yourself (and burning yourself out)
Many entrepreneurs want to save money by creating their own website.
The result: days (or weeks) spent searching for tutorials, testing themes, adjusting colors… for a result that is often approximate.
The real problem:
This takes you away from your core business and makes you waste valuable time.
The solution:
Delegate what's not in your area of expertise. Your time is worth more than the price of a professional website.
2. Starting the site without a strategy
Many jump straight into the design: "What color? What template? What style?"
But before the design, a strategy is needed:
Who is your ideal client?
Why is he visiting your site?
What do you want him to do?
What is the central message you want to convey?
A website without a strategy is a website that doesn't convert.
The solution:
Always start with: objectives, message, structure, user journey.
3. Talking too much about oneself (and not enough about the client)
This is one of the most common mistakes. Your visitor isn't looking for your CV:
He wants to know how you can help him .
The solution:
Talk about their needs, their results, their obstacles. Position yourself as the solution to their problem.
4. Using an inconsistent design
Random colours, different fonts everywhere, style changing from page to page…This gives an amateurish feel and detracts from credibility.
The solution:
Simple, consistent and elegant branding. A professional style, repeated everywhere.
5. Failure to optimize page structure
Having a beautiful website is not enough.
It must be designed to guide the visitor and encourage them to take action.
Common mistakes:
Too much text
Not enough buttons
Calls to action that are not very visible
Confusing navigation
The solution:
Each page should guide the user towards a specific action.
6. Ignore SEO (and become invisible)
Without SEO, your site remains a well-kept secret. It's like opening a shop in the desert.
The solution:
Optimize your text, titles, tags, images, and content structure. SEO is not optional: it's a long-term investment.
7. Thinking that the website alone is enough to attract customers
A website alone doesn't sell. It's the surrounding ecosystem that converts:
your content strategy
your social networks
your email marketing
your offers
your branding
your SEO
Your website is the foundation. But it's the whole that creates the result.
The solution:
Building a coherent and complete digital ecosystem (which is what I do with my 360° support).
In conclusion
Creating a professional website is not just about choosing a pretty design.
It's a mix of strategy, branding, UX, technology, SEO, and marketing.
Avoiding these 7 mistakes can transform a simple website into a real conversion and growth tool for your business.
